Solution:

We have:

$a_{n}=x n+y$

$\therefore a_{1}=x+y$

$a_{2}=2 x+y$

Common difference of an A.P., $d=a_{2}-a_{1}$

$\Rightarrow(2 x+y)-(x+y)$

$\Rightarrow x$
