Two different metal bodies

Question:

Two different metal bodies $A$ and $B$ of equal mass are heated at a uniform rate under similar conditions. The variation of temperature of the bodies is graphically represented as shown in the figure. The ratio of specific heat capacities is :

  1. $\frac{8}{3}$

  2. $\frac{3}{8}$

  3. $\frac{3}{4}$

  4. $\frac{4}{3}$

Correct Option: , 2

Solution:

$\left(\frac{\Delta \mathrm{Q}}{\Delta \mathrm{t}}\right)_{\mathrm{A}}=\left(\frac{\Delta \mathrm{Q}}{\Delta \mathrm{t}}\right)_{\mathrm{B}}$

$\mathrm{mS}_{\mathrm{A}}\left(\frac{\Delta \mathrm{T}}{\Delta \mathrm{t}}\right)_{\mathrm{A}}=\mathrm{mS}_{\mathrm{B}}\left(\frac{\Delta \mathrm{T}}{\Delta \mathrm{t}}\right)_{\mathrm{B}}$

$\frac{\mathrm{S}_{\mathrm{A}}}{\mathrm{S}_{\mathrm{B}}}=\frac{\left(\frac{\Delta \mathrm{T}}{\Delta \mathrm{t}}\right)_{\mathrm{A}}}{\left(\frac{\Delta \mathrm{T}}{\Delta \mathrm{t}}\right)_{\mathrm{B}}}=\frac{90 / 6}{120 / 3}=\frac{15}{40}=\frac{3}{8}$
