The two conjugate acid-base pairs in the ionisation of HCl are (HCl-Cl-) in which HCl is the conjugate acid and Cl- is the conjugate base similarly the second pair is (H2O-

H3O+) in which H2O is the conjugate base and H3O+ is the conjugate acid.
