Question:
The distance between the points A(0, 6) and 5(0,- 2) is
(a) 6
(b) 8
(c) 4
(d) 2
Solution:
(b) v Distance between the points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2),
$d=\sqrt{\left(x_{2}-x_{1}\right)^{2}+\left(y_{2}-y_{1}\right)^{2}}$
Here, $x_{1}=0, y_{1}=6$ and $x_{2}=0, y_{2}=-2$
$\therefore$ Distance between $A(0,6)$ and $B(0,-2)$,
$A B=\sqrt{(0-0)^{2}+(-2-6)^{2}}$
$=\sqrt{0+(-8)^{2}}=\sqrt{8^{2}}=8$
