Plants show temporary and permanent wilting.

Question:

Plants show temporary and permanent wilting. Differentiate between the two. Do any of them indicate the water status of the soil?

Solution:

In temporary wilting, plants lose turgidity when the rate of transpiration is more than the rate of water absorption from the soil but in permanent wilting, wilting of the plant

occurs and is a permanent phenomenon as the soil is unable to meet the water requirement of the plant.
