Question:

Let * be a binary operation on the set I of all integers, defined by a * b = 3a + 4b - 2. Find the value of 4 * 5. 

Solution:

To find: 4*5

a*b = 3a + 4b - 2

Here a = 4 and b = 5

⇒ 4*5 = 3 × 4 + 4 × 5 - 2 = 12 + 20 - 2 = 30

⇒ 4*5 = 30
