If the numbers x − 2, 4x − 1 and

Question:

If the numbers x − 2, 4x − 1 and 5x + 2 are in A.P. find the value of x.

Solution:

It is given that the numbers

We have to find the value of x

We know that if x, y and z are in A.P, then

$y-x=z-y$

$2 y=x+z$

Therefore for the given numbers

$2(4 x-1)=x-2+5 x+2$

$8 x-2=6 x$

$8 x-6 x=2$

$2 x=2$

Hence $x=1$
