A vertical stick of length 6 m casts a shadow 4 m long

Question.

A vertical stick of length $6 \mathrm{~m}$ casts a shadow $4 \mathrm{~m}$ long on the ground and at the same time a tower casts a shadow $28 \mathrm{~m}$ long. Find the height of the tower.

Solution:

A vertical stick of length 6 m casts a shadow 4 m long on the

$\triangle \mathrm{ABC} \sim \triangle \mathrm{PQR}$

$\therefore \quad \frac{\mathrm{AB}}{\mathrm{PQ}}=\frac{\mathrm{BC}}{\mathrm{QR}}$

$\frac{6}{x}=\frac{4}{28}$

$\Rightarrow x=42 \mathrm{~m}$
