For any two sets A and B,

Question:

For any two sets A and B, [B' ∪ (B' – A)]' is equal to ____________.

Solution:

For set A and B,
[B' ⋃ (B' – A')]'

= (B')⋂ (B' – A')'         [By De-Morgan's Law]

= (B')⋂ (B' ⋂ (A')')'

= (B')⋂ (B' ⋂ A)'

= (B')' ⋂ (B ⋃ A')           [By De-Morgan's Law]

⋂ (⋃ A')

⋂ (B ⋃ A')

= (⋂ B) ⋃ (⋂ A')

⋃ (⋂ A')

[Since $B \cap A^{\prime} \subseteq B$ ]

B

i.e [B' ⋃ (B' – A')]' = B
