For any three sets A,

Question:

For any three sets AB and C, (A – B) ∩ (C – B) is equal to ____________.

Solution:

For AB and C

(– B) ∩ (C – B) = ( BC) ∩ (∩ BC)

∩ BC ∩ BC ∩ C        (∵ intersection is associative)

A ∩ (BC ∩ BC) ∩ C

A ∩ BC ∩ C                   (∵ B∩ BC = BC)

A ∩ C ∩ BC

Hence, (A – B) ∩ (C – B) = (∩ C) – B
