Topics Covered in Exercise 3.2 Class 11 Mathematics Questions

Ex 3.2 class 11 maths chapter 3 is based on the topics of trigonometric functions, sign, domain and range of trigonometric functions.

1.

Trigonometric Functions

2.

Sign of trigonometric functions

3.

Domain and range of trigonometric functions

  1. Trigonometric Functions

You will be taught trigonometric ratios to any radian measure angle and studied as trigonometric functions.

There are six trigonometric functions. Out of whic 3 trigonometric functions (sin x, cos x, tan x) are important and the next three are cosec x, sec x, and cot x, which are their respective reciprocal functions.

Trigonometric functions with pythagorean identities include:

sin2 x + cos2 x = 1

1 + tan2 x = sec2 x

1 + cot2 x = cosec2 x

  1. Sign of trigonometric functions

There are six trigonometric functions in trigonometry, namely sin, cos , tan , cosec , sec and tan. Different quadrants can be used to determine the sign of a trigonometric function.

All functions in the first quadrant are positive. In the second quadrant, only sin and cosec are positive, in the third quadrant, only tan and cot are positive, and in the fourth quadrant, only cos and sec are positive.

  1. Domain and range of trigonometric functions

From the definition of sine and cosine functions, we observe that they are defined for all real numbers. Further, we observe that for each real number x,

                            – 1 ≤ sin x ≤ 1 and – 1 ≤ cos x ≤ 1

Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1. What are the trigonometric functions in NCERT solutions class 11 maths chapter 3 exercise 3.2?

Answer 1. Trigonometric functions are usually calculated using trigonometric ratios. There are 6 trigonometric ratios, of which 2 (cos and sin) are basic. The major ratios are sin, cos and tan, Tan being derived from sin and cos. The inverse of the three major ratios are cosec, sec and cot. Cosec is inverse of sin, sec is inverse of cos and cot is inverse of tan. These ratios are also referred to as trigonometric functions.

Question 2. Write the name of six trigonometric functions?

Answer 2. The six trigonometric functions are sin, cos, tan, cosec, sec and cot.
